Pre- History / European contact period for Ngāti Toa

Pre- History / European contact period for Ngāti Toa

Description

The depiction of the Pre-colonial era for Ngāti Toa will provide grounding, understanding and māramatanga about iwi history for participants who attend this course.   We explore the period of time our tupuna lived in Kawhia, we explore people of influence in the iwi, and the challenges and sacrifices our people faced on Te heke mai raro (the migration from Kawhia to Porirua) under the leadership of Te Rauparaha, settlement in Te Upoko o te Ika and Te Tau Ihu. Finally we will look at the relationship between Ngāti Toa and Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the lead up to the settlement.
